MeggaMen Escape With Win
Tom came into the playoffs on a roll, having won 10 games in a row. He had posted over 100 points 11 times this season and over 120, eight times. His potential scores for the last three weeks were all 166 pts or higher, a number no other team has come close to all season. Tim on the other hand, had won three in a row, all with Monday night heroics and in none of them did he score 100 points.
The MeggaMen then posted one of their worst games of the season. Brady was held to 15 points and the rest of the offense was mediocre. Of course there was a defensive interception with return yards that he seems to get every week. Had Odell Beckham been ejected, as he should have, they would have fallen by a point. But Beckham stuck around and picked up 9 points, giving the MeggaMen a 28-20 victory.
The MeggaMen have now won three straight playoff games and are in the Championship for a record tying 7th time. On the other hand the Sean Taylor's Ashes have now lost their last four playoff games, tied for the second longest streak ever.
The other game was also an eight point margin. The Sacks on the Beach defeated the Crusaders, 48-40. The Crusaders got a boost from Deone Bucannon who returned an interception for a touchdown, earning 24 points on the day. But that was more than cancelled out by Antonio Brown's 36 points. And realistically who would have started Brock Osweller over Aaron Rodgers, but it would have saved the Crusaders. The win sends the Sacks to their second straight championship game and third in four years.
In the Toilet Bowl, the Whiskey Tango were not able to repeat one of their three season wins, as they fell to the Woodland Rangers, 19-0. It is Warren's sixth straight loss and second Toilet Bowl defeat (the franchise has a third). The Woodland Rangers won their second straight Toilet Bowl in their third straight appearance.
Championship Game Preview
#1 MeggaMen (13-2) vs #4 Sacks on the Beach (9-6)
The Sacks find themselves in the Championship for the third time in four years, hoping that this year ends a bit different than the previous two. It is the Sacks' sixth overall trip to the Championship and so far only have one title to show for it.
The MeggaMen are back in the title game having last been here two years ago. A win would be Tom's fifth, tying him with Byron for most by a single owner.
In the 16 years Mike and Tom have been in the league they have combined for 13 championship game appearance, but this is the first time they have faced each other in that game. They have met in the first round two times before, 2005 and 2006, with Tom winning both of those games. This season they split their meetings, with Mike handing Tom one of his two defeats in week 3 (54-38), but Tom getting revenge in week 9 (52-49).
All-time the MeggaMen have a slight edge leading the series 13-12. The two teams have the best overall records of any teams in the league, MeggaMen - 142-94-4 .600, Sacks - 139-99-4 .583. In the regular season they have identical 131-89-4 .594 records.
The MeggaMen certainly appear to be the stronger team. They averaged over 123 point per game this season compared to the under 98 per game by the Sacks. In a week by week comparison the MeggaMen would have gone 11-3. Of course, the Sacks would have won last week. With Beckham suspended for the week and Brady having not much to play for the Sacks might find a way to pull it off. But the smart money is on the MeggaMen.
