MeggaMen Come Back To Start 1-0

Kareem Hunt scored 35, but the Sacks fell short
Published: Sep 14, 2017

The MeggaMen started their season off with a Monday night surge to beat their rival Sacks on the Beach, 36-32.  The win extends their regular season unbeaten streak to 10 games.  They ended last season with a tie against these same Sacks on the Beach.  The Sacks took a huge lead on Thursday, behind Kareem Hunt's 35 points.  By Monday they had a 36 point lead, but the MeggaMen were able to get 40.  The Sacks went into the game without a game plan and the MeggaMen exploited it, gaining 10 on their plan and costing the Sacks 5.

Steve won his first game at the helm of the Fightin' Bitin' Beavers by shutting out the Fighting Squirrels, 13-0.  His defense was bolstered by Calais Campbell's 4 sacks and 14 points.  The Squirrels actually managed a higher defensive score, but couldn't muster enough offense to get on the board.

The other two first time owners fell short in their first games.  Richard's Lionhearts lost to the Norsemen 19-0, in a week of overall low scores theirs came out the lowest.  The Norsemen got a score of 20 out of Cam Newton.  Don also fell short in his game as Sean Taylor's Ashes lost 10-0 to the Gallic Warriors.  His RBs and WRs netted him no points, while the Gallics didn't do a whole lot better.  But Chris' kicker made the difference.

In one of the most competative games, the Crusaders defeated Tim Always Pulls Out Late, 16-13.  It's the seventh straight year that Warren has dropped his opening game.  Meanwhile, the Crusaders have now won ten opening games in a row.

Finally, in a rematch of a playoff game the defending champion Woodland Rangers easily defeated the Amish Electricians, 45-7.  The Rangers have now beaten the Amish in their last four meetings.

Overall, the week one scores were very low, even when igoring game planning.  Only two teams had raw scores that broke 80 and three teams fell short of 60.

As has been noted in the discussions a flaw has been discovered with the game planning.  When game planning against your opponent's player, if that player scores negative that score gets halved, which hurts the team game planning against.  For example, this week Warren started Andy Dalton and Jon game planned for him.  He ended up with 5 turnovers and less than 200 yards and no TDs, so that should have been -10 points.  But because Jon game planned against Dalton, his score got halved to -5.  Which doesn't make any sense.  There were also a couple of other cases this week.

A proposal has been added to be voted on to correct this situation as proposal 2017.6.  It would make negative scores game planned against not be halved.  Players game planned for that get negative scores will still be doubled.  It is available to be voted on now, if we can get 100% to vote for it we can have it take effect immediately.  In that scenario it will NOT be retro-actively applied.  Also, the three new owners still don't have voting privledges until the end of the season.
