Crazy Week With Blowouts

Published: Dec 05, 2020
Last week was one of the craziest weeks ever in football.  One team played with no QBs and another game got pushes multiple times to Wednesday.  In our league we had two of the highest scores ever posted.  With a single player scoring one of the highest all-time scores.

The Fighting Squirrels are battling for a playoff spot and played the Amish Electricians.  They won resoundingly, 113-0.  Tyreek Hill's (WR-KC) 47 points is the second highest every scored by a WR (Jimmy Smith, 52 pts, week 2 of 2000) and the sixth highest score at any position.  Their total score of 180 would have been the fifth highest single week score by a team except...

The MeggaMen moved into a first place tie in the White Division with a dominating 61-0 victory over the Sacks on the Beach.  The Sacks put up a respectable 119 total points, but the MeggaMen posted 182 for the fifth highest score ever.  They had three players score over 30 and another over 20.  This includes Jeremy Chinn (DB-CAR) scoring 34 in the fourth highest score by a DB.  I guess it's good for Brian that he and Tom didn't play this week.  Can you imagine scoreing 180 pts and losing?  That would suck.

In other games, the Crusaders lost to the Gallic Warriors, 38-10, to fall into a tie atop the division and putting their playoff chances at risk.  The Norsemen and the Sean Taylor's Ashes both did what they needed to in the battle for the wild card.  The Norsemen beating the Testudos Revenge 45-23 and the STA defeating the British Bulldogs 21-10.  Oh and Warren beat Richard, with the Trump Molests Collies shuting out the Richard's Lionhearts, 46-0.

Playoff Races

Three playoff spots remain and each comes down to pairs of teams fighting it out.  Unfortunately, none of them face each other again.

In the White Division, the MeggaMen and Sacks are tied at 6-6.  The MeggaMen have the tie breaker here because of their season sweep over the Sacks.  So a MeggaMen win and a Sacks loss will clinch the division for Tom.  At 4-8, the Testudos Revenge could end in a three way tie for the division, but the MeggaMen would win the tie-breaker based on division record, so Testudos is eliminated.

The Gold Division has the Squirrels and the Crusaders tied with 7-5.  The Squirrels will win any tie-breaker here, so they also could clinch this week with a win and a Crusader loss.  Warren could also get into a three-way tie, but the Squirrels would win the tiebreaker.

The Wild Card is a battle between the STA and the Norsemen.  The STA would win a tie at 8 wins but that also leaves open a chance for the Crusaders to win the wild card with 9 wins or the Sacks to win a tiebreaker at 8 wins.

If both teams win out and end at 10 wins, then the tiebreaker comes down to strength of victory.  Which would reduce down to whether the Squirrels or Sacks have a better record.  With the STA winning if the Squirrels have the better record.  A tie would go to the Norsemen on head-to-head margin of vitory.

If the teams end up tied at 9 wins it depends on how they got there for who would win.  If the STA's win is against the Amish next week then they'll win a 9 win tie on division record.  If their win is outside the division, then it'll come down to strength of victory.  If the Norsemen beat the Amish this week, then they would win the SOV tie.  But a loss forces the same SOV scenario as the 10 win case.

So the only way this race can be wrapped up this week is with a STA win, a Norsemen loss, a Squirrel win and a Sacks loss.
