Gallic Warriors Select Peyton Manning First Overall
The draft was held on Sunday, August 25th at Hall's house. In spite of a few issues with the draft software it went fairly well. The Gallic Warriors took Peyton Manning (QB-DEN) with the first overall pick. Deciding to try what the Colts didn't want to do last year and putting Manning and Andrew Luck on the same team. It was the fifth time a QB was taken first overall and the first time it happened in back-to-back seasons since the Norsemen took the Seattle QB (Rick Mirer) in 1994 and the Warriors took Dallas QB (Troy Aikman) in 1995. This marked the fourth time the Gallic Warriors picked first overall, tied for the league record with the Fighting Squirrels, and the first time any team has done so in back-to-back seasons.
The rest of the first round saw many more WRs taken then past years, with 6 WRs going compared to 4 RBs and 2 QBs. The first defensive player to go was J.J. Watts (DL-HOU), in the 2nd round with the 21st overall pick by the Sacks on the Beach. The total number of players taken by position was:
| QB | RB | WR | TE | K | OL | DL | LB | DB |
| 13 | 31 | 31 | 15 | 11 | 5 | 27 | 33 | 26 |
This was the first draft with the new timing rules in effect. With the problems with the drafting software it did limit the success of the new rules. The total time from first pick to last was 2 hours and 23 minutes. Last year's record was 1 hour 42 minutes but with 4 fewer rounds. The average time was up however, last year it took about 98 seconds per pick, this year it took 116 seconds per pick. Hopefully next year with the tools fixed and with pre-drafting in place the number can be lowered again. For an idea of who took the most time here are the average time usage by team, keep in mind however that many teams were having technical troubles.
