Peyton Puts On A Clinic, Gallic Warriors Almost Blow It

Peyton Manning smashed the league single-game QB record. But the curse of Ira was almost stronger as the Gallic Warriors needed a Monday night comeback to hold on to victory.

Peyton Manning of the Gallic Warriors put on the greatest QB performance in WMFFL history, if not the greatest in NFL history, and racked up 53 points to open the season. He smashed the old single-game QB record of 45 and broken Jimmy Smith's 13 year old single player record of 52. It's only the second time a player has scored over 50. To put in perspective how impressive that score was, there were 67 times last year where a team's entire offense didn't score 53 and three times that an entire team didn't score that many. In spite of that great performance, the rest of the Gallic Warrior's team struggled as they barely edged out a win against the Ravaging Camel Clutch, 61-58. It is their first opening day win since 2008 and ends a nine game regular season losing streak.

The Pretend I'm Not Here get out of the gates quickly with a 71-20 victory over the Norsemen, ending a ten game losing streak to the Norsemen, dating back to opening day of 2006. The Pretend haven't won on opening day since 2007, the Norsemen haven't lost since 2010. Also with a strong opening day, the Mansfield Onanists shutout the Fighting Squirrels, 68-0. The Onanists went over 100 on offense and are now 3-1 all-time vs the Squirrels.

The Woodland Rangers also score a shutout, 26-0, over the defending champion Whiskey Tango. Warren's trend of slow starts continues, the previous two years he lost the opener, then went on to win the title. In an early White Division matchup, the Toilet Bowl loser MeggaMen defeated the Sacks on the Beach, 74-45. Finally, the Crusaders defeated the Werewolves, 38-17. That is their sixth straight opening day win. It also means that all three division champions lost their first game of the season. The first time that has happened. Ok, so I made that last part up, but it sounds like it probably is the first time I'll have to look and see.

Next week the Gallic Warriors try to pick up their first 2-0 start since 2003 against the Mansfield Onansits. After getting swept last year, the MeggaMen look for a win against the Woodland Rangers. The most played rivalry in the league gets played for a 48th time as the Norsemen take on the Werewolves, both looking for their first win of the season. The RCC, coming off Peyton fatigue, take on the Crusaders. The Pretend I'm Not Here are heavy favorites vs the Fighting Squirrels as are the Sacks vs the Whiskey Tango, in a Championship Game rematch.
