Squirrels Come Back Vs Rangers

Published: Dec 07, 2016

Andrew Luck of the Fighting Squirrels scored 29 points on Monday night to life the Fighting Squirrels to a 41-38 victory over the Woodland Rangers.  It ends the Rangers six game winning streak, longest in franchise history.  The Squirrels have now picked up three in a row and in spite of a rough start to the season have a chance to get to .500 and finish second in the division with a win over the Crusaders this week.

Speaking of the Crusaders, they lost to the MeggaMen 18-6.  This dropped them to 6-6-1 and have now lost four out of their last five.  For the MeggaMen the win propells them to their 12th win, becoming the first team in league history to win 12 games in back-to-back seasons.  With a win next week they'll end the regular season setting a new record for the best in league history.

With the Crusaders losing, the Gallic Warriors had a chance to lock up the division.  With a 29-13 win over the Sacks on the Beach, they were able to secure their second division title in three years.  This locks up the four playoff teams but does leave some questions as to the seeding.  The Amish Electricians defeated the Norsemen, 58-26, sweeping the season series for the 6th time in the rivalry.

There were two key games that would help determine the Toilet Bowl representatives.  In the Burgundy Division, the Mansfield Onanists moved out of the division cellar with a 56-33 victory over Sean Taylor's Ashes.  The STA had previously beat the Onanists in their last four meetings.  The loss makes the STA likely to end up in the Toilet Bowl.  Meanwhile, the Whiskey Tango edged out the Pretend I'm Not Here, 27-21.  For the third time this season the Pretend played enough bye week players to impact the outcome.  They could easily have three more wins than they currently do.  This guarantees the Pretend a trip to the Toilet Bowl for the first time since 2010, and their 7th overall appearance.  It also eliminated the Whiskey Tango from Toilet Bowl contention.

The final spot in the Toilet Bowl will go to the bottom team in the Burgundy Division, but there are still three teams that could end in that position.

  • Sean Taylor's Ashes will be in Toilet Bowl with loss to Norsemen OR
Tie and Mansfield Onanists win or tie
  • Mansfield Onanists will be in Toilet Bowl with a loss and Norsemen lose or tie to Sean Taylor's Ashes
  • Norsemen in Toilet Bowl with a loss and Mansfield Onanists win or tie

Playoff Seeding

  • MeggaMen will be the #1 seed
  • Woodland Rangers will be the #4 seed
  • Gallic Warriors are #2 seed with a win or tie or Amish loss or tie, #3 otherwise
  • Amish are #2 seed with win and Warriors loss, #3 otherwise

Rule Passage

A proposal that has been sitting on the ballot all season, 2016.3, passed on Thursday.  The final vote is 7-3 with 1 abstain.  This is the rule governing that teams that didn't pay the entry fee in time will drop four spots in the following season's draft.  It will take effect for the 2017 draft.  As a result the Norsemen will be penaltized four draft positions next season.
