Halfway There

The severity of Mahomes injury will have an impact on the outcome of the season
Published: Oct 23, 2019

As we reach the halfway point in the season there appears to be two front runners then a slog of everyone else.  But even the front runners are showing vulerabilities.

The Norsemen came into week 7 as the clear favorites, having average scores of over 116 a game and potential scores regularly exceeding 150.  Then a couple of injuries later and they put up a very weak 69.  They managed to escape with a win due heavily to Brett Maher's (K-DAL) 63 yard field goal and Richard left 54 points on the bench, including 33 points by Marvin Jones (WR-DET).  The Norsemen advance to 6-1 with a 23-8 victory over Richard's Lionhearts.  Richard falls to 3-4.

The MeggaMen have also put up some strong numbers and now lead the league in poitns scored.  They suffered some bad schedule luck early in the year, losing some games with high scores to teams that were just a bit better that week.  But that has worked it's way out over the last few weeks.  The opposite of that, Warren has been a bit on the lucky side.  So it makes sense that the two of them would matchup to settle that.  (Also everyone plays everyone else once so they had to meet eventually)  This time Tom put up a decent but not particually spectacular score and Warren..., well at least he didn't play Sam Darnold (QB-NYJ) who couldn't deal with Halloween a week early.  MeggaMen won this 26-0.

Testudos Revenge, Crusaders and Amish Electricians all won to advance to 4-3.  Derek's Testudos Revenge put up the high score of the week at 119 total points, getting solid performances all around, to beat The British Bulldogs, 49-26.  Adam can't seem to cut a break as another decent week ends in defeat, for his 6th straight.  For the Crusaders they finally got an Aaron Rodgers worthy performance out of Aaron Rodgers (QB-GB) as he scored a career high 46 points, the third highest score ever by a QB.  This was enough to counter two players going negative and defeat the Sean Taylor's Ashes, 53-4.  Josh rode Kirk Cousins (QB-MIN) and Chandler Jones (LB-AR) to a 23-1 win over the Fighting Squirrels, who have now dropped five straight to the Amish.

Finally, in what was probably the biggest upset of the week, the Gallic Warriors defeated the Sacks on the Beach, 18-0.  Mike had the points to win on the bench in the form of Matthew Stafford (QB-DET), but realistically no one would start Stafford over Wentz (QB-PHI).  In a random scheduling fluke this is the third straight year that these teams have met in week 8.

A look at the standing at the midpoint reveals that the season is wide open and ready for pretty much any team to make a run in the second half.  Current playoff and title percentages:

Team Playoff % Championship %
Norsemen   > 99% 38.0%
