At The Midpoint
We are now half way through the 2024 season and the standings certainly don't look like they usually do. If the playoffs started today the four teams getting in would be Richard's Lionhearts, Testudos Revenge, Trump Molests Collies and Sacks on the Beach.
While the Lionhearts made the playoffs last year, it was by winning the division at 7-7. They haven't had a winning record since 2019 and have never won a playoff game. They have a 57% chance of making the playoffs and a 22% chance of picking up that first playoff victory.
The Testudos Revenge should have made the playoffs last year at 8-6, but the division layout hurt them. They now find themselves tied for the division lead in their new division and on a five game winning streak. They are favored to win the division (47%) and have about a 70% chance of making the playoffs.
Trump Molests Collies does make the playoffs regularly and are setting atop the Gold Division, a title they have won the last three seasons. They ahve a 78% chance of still being there in seven more weeks.
The Sacks have been in a bit of a playoff drought, not having made it in seven seasons. They hold a tie breaker over the Aint Nothing But A Jew and currently have the best chances at winning the title at 26%. While not in a playoff spot right now the ANBJ do have a 53% chance of getting there.
Traditional playoff contenders Norsemen and MeggaMen are currently on the outside. The Norsemen sit only a game behind the two division leaders in a much tougher Burgundy Division and have wins against both of them. In that spot they have a 28% chance of getting in.
It certainly looks like the MeggaMen will not be there this year, with less than a 1% chance at this point. They are not only the defending champions and have been to three straight championships, but they have also been to four straight playoffs and seven of the last nine. Tom's prediction of an 11-3 season is laughable at this point, but maybe he got it backwards, 3-11 might be in the cards.
